Iceland and Colombia, one touching the Arctic Circle and the other crossing the
equator, don’t seem to have much in common.
With a population of well over 52 million, Colombia covers more than 1.1 million
square kilometers, while Iceland only covers 103,000 square kilometers and has a
population of just under 400,000 (yes, not even half a million). Thus, Colombia is 11
times larger and 135 times more populous, but at the same time Iceland enjoys a
GDP and average per capita income ten times higher.
ACCORDING TO AN INDEX PUBLISHED BY WORLD DATA THAT MEASURES THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF PEOPLE IN DIFFERENT COUNTRIES, ICELAND RANKS 28TH IN THE WORLD WITH AN OVERALL SCORE OF 66 (AUSTRIA LEADS WITH 77) AND COLOMBIA RANKS 105TH WITH A SCORE OF 44 (SUDAN THE LOWEST WITH 26).
Iceland may outperform Colombia on most economic parameters, but when it comes
to the richness of nature and biodiversity, Colombia wins the prize; in fact, on those
parameters it outperforms most other countries in the world.
So Iceland and Colombia do not seem to have much in common. What they do have
in common is that they are both increasingly popular tourist destinations. Colombia
for its abundant nature, pleasant climate, strong culture, colorful and vibrant towns
and cities, as well as its friendly and welcoming people. Iceland probably more for its
remoteness, safety and calm, and for those who want to witness the forces of nature
in a more rugged way, not forgetting the Northern Lights.
We are now introducing our Moxẽ chocolate in Iceland and thus inviting Icelanders to
taste the biodiversity of Colombia through quality dark chocolate from three different
regions of the country. We hope that taste will spark an interest to learn more about
the beautiful country of Colombia and possibly pay it a visit – I highly recommend it!
